Making room for proper meals in a 14-hour workday

Sam Zia

The starting point

For Sam, a twelve- or fourteen-hour workday was a familiar part of running a business. In his testimonial, he describes being unable to leave his computer for twelve hours at a time, sometimes two or three days in a week. Eating properly kept getting pushed behind whatever needed his attention next.

He remembers stretches of long days without getting enough food or what he considered real energy into his body. By the evening, he felt the difference. The final hours were the hardest, and putting in another two hours of work was the last thing he wanted to do.

Food also came with work of its own: deciding what to make, preparing it, and cleaning up afterward. Sam wanted those tasks handled so that a demanding day would no longer mean going without a proper meal.

The support around him

A chef came into Sam’s home to cook and clean, taking responsibility for the preparation that had been competing with his workday.

Food was portioned into containers and left ready for him. Eating no longer required starting a cooking project when he finally stepped away from the computer.

The arrangement removed several recurring jobs at once. Sam could spend his break eating instead of using it to prepare a meal and deal with the kitchen afterward.

That practical support gave nutrition a place in his existing schedule. It did not depend on him suddenly having shorter workdays or more time to organize food himself.

In his own words

Having a chef come in, do all of the cooking and cleaning, prepare everything for me in Tupperware, it took care of every low ROI activity that basically did not need to happen in my day to day life as a founder.

Sam describes a noticeable difference in how he feels when he has eaten well during the day. He contrasts that with the evenings when he had worked for hours without enough food and felt exhausted by the last stretch.

The experience also changed what fitness meant to him. He had associated it with building a physique. Working with Optimability helped him see the value of having a body that felt supported through the demands of his day, even when the work itself remained intense.

When Sam recommends the service, he points to the time and effort it takes off his plate. Cooking, cleaning, and preparing meals were jobs he no longer needed to handle personally. The food was ready, and he could get on with his day.
